Aspen Recreation Center
REMP funds are being used to enhance the energy efficiency of Aspen's pool and rink complex. The facility includes efficient boilers, pumps, motors, and fans, as well as a solar hot water system and micro-turbine to make electricity.
Affordable Housing
The REMP fund paid for the installation of large solar hot water systems at the Burlingame/MAA Affordable Housing Project. At Blue Creek Ranch REMP money has helped to boost the energy efficiency of several single family affordable homes.
Aspen High School
The new Aspen High School incorporated daylighting features that were designed with REMP funding support.
Ruedi Creek Hydro
This 15-kilowatt hydro system will produce 150,000 kilowatt-hours each year, eliminating 250,000 pounds of greenhouse gases per year.
Green Design
REMP funds are used to incorporate sustainable design principles and green building materials into public buildings and affordable housing projects.
Solar Incentives
In 1997, CORE started America's first solar production incentive payment program. Through the REMP program we pay $2.00 per watt for energy produced by solar photovoltaic systems (up to $6,000), and also provide $1,000 to $2000. rebates on solar hot water systems. Note that Holy Cross Energy also provides grants for solar photovoltaic systems of $2.00 per watt. Holy Cross subsidizes grid tied systems in their service territory.
Efficient Appliance Rebates
The REMP fund provides cash incentives to purchasers of energy- and water-saving clothes washers. It also rebates Energy Star dishwashers and refrigerators. Holy Cross Energy offers similar cash incentives for efficient appliances as well.
Car Sharing
The City of Aspen's new Car Sharing Program is being funded with $30,000 of REMP funds. The fleet now contains a Toyota Prius and and a Ford Focus station wagon. Check out how to become a member at www.roaringforkvehicles.com.
Zero Interest Loans
This program is designed to help residents and businesses purchase renewable energy systems or make energy efficiency improvements to their buildings. REMP funds pay the interest on the loans. Please note that REMP funds cannot be used for rebates and cash incentives for the same project.
Mini Grant Program
REMP makes small grants to an array of local non-profit groups and schools working on energy and environmental issues. Recipients have included the Science Outreach Center, Yampah Mountain High School, and Solar Energy International. As funds are limited, please check with CORE staff BEFORE submitting a proposal.
