Creating Happy, Healthy Places and Spaces for Our Community

Wildfire smoke arrived in the Roaring Fork Valley this week, along with soaring summer temperatures and Stage 2 fire restrictions. For many of us who rely on passive cooling systems to keep our mountain homes comfortable, this presents a problem: open the windows overnight to cool your house and risk allowing wildfire smoke to infiltrate, or keep the windows closed and run your air purifiers, but endure stifling heat?

Fortunately, there’s a better solution. CORE can help solve this worsening summer conundrum by providing the financial incentives and expert guidance you need to install a heat pump. These highly efficient systems can provide both cooling and heating, allowing you to keep your windows closed on smoky days while maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature year-round. In addition to improving indoor air quality and comfort, heat pumps can reduce energy usage, lower utility costs for some users, and make your home more resilient as our summers grow hotter and wildfire seasons become longer.

Thank you for supporting CORE and for following our efforts to advance climate action across Western Colorado. Read through our newsletter for more information about how to stay cool while saving energy this summer!

Healthier Kitchens Start at Home

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and the air we breathe matters. Induction cooking offers fast, precise performance without combustion, helping support a healthier indoor environment while producing less excess heat in the kitchen during warmer months.

CORE offers rebates for qualifying induction ranges, and City of Aspen residents may be eligible for additional incentives.

Energy Spotlight: Creating a Healthier, Cooler Home with Heat Pumps

For Carbondale resident Sheri Gaynor, installing a heat pump was about more than home comfort—it was about creating a healthier home. After several wildfire seasons made it difficult to open windows due to smoke, Sheri looked for a solution that would improve indoor air quality while reducing her reliance on natural gas.

With guidance from CORE's Energy Concierge and available rebates, Sheri made the leap. Her experience shows that heat pumps are cool for more than just heating and cooling—they can help create healthier, more comfortable homes year-round.
