Energy Spotlight:
The Fire Place - Housing Our Heroes
Aspen Fire District’s All-Electric Workforce Housing

Battalion Chief Ken Josselyn gives a tour of an all-electric home in the Fire Place.
When our first responders are ready to answer the call, they shouldn't have to worry about where they'll sleep at night. That's the thinking behind "The Fire Place," the Aspen Fire District’s workforce housing project that's changing how we support our essential workers.
Starting in 2022, the Aspen Fire District partnered with CORE to advise and fund this all-electric multifamily housing complex in the AABC. The fifteen safe, modern, and comfortable homes are located right next door to the fire station, giving our firefighters the ultimate short commute while ensuring they're close when emergencies arise.
Each unit features state-of-the-art amenities that prioritize both comfort and efficiency: heat pumps for year-round climate control, ENERGY STAR appliances, LED lighting throughout, and programmable thermostats. These aren't just energy-efficient features; they're quality-of-life improvements that help our essential workers focus on what matters most: keeping our community safe.
The Fire Place represents more than just housing; it's a commitment to the people who serve our community every day and showcases what's possible when local agencies work together to solve real community challenges. The Fire Place proves that workforce housing can be both sustainable and supportive of those who serve us all.

CORE & Eagle County Are Stepping up to Help Building Owners Meet State Standards

CORE assesses building operation systems to help identify areas of improvement.
Colorado's new energy standards require buildings 50,000 square feet and larger to reduce carbon emissions. CORE and Eagle County are working together to help buildings in Eagle County turn this compliance challenge into a competitive advantage.
In addition to helping property owners avoid state penalties, CORE can provide FREE services to help tackle deferred maintenance, boost property value, and cut operating costs.
